Artist Biography
Exibiting at the Orlando Museum of Art in Florida.
I was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. At the age of three my father
decided to move the family to Bronx, New York we were part of the diaspora to the mainland. I attended P.S. 61 also known as Francisco Oller elementary school where my passion for the arts began at eight years of age. I was one of the fortunate to attend most of my elementary years in the Bronx public school system. The school gave the students an opportunity to attend several field trips to the Museums, theaters and the ballet. Still vivid in my mind was my first trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I remembered lagging behind unwilling to move along. I was captivated by the Master's art pieces that seemed bigger than life. I knew at that moment I wanted to be an artist when I grew up.
After my visit to the Metroplolitan Museum of Art. My mother's Bible became the focus of my art appreciation. The beautiful illustrations in the stories were the works of the Old Masters and I became interested in reading the Bible at an early age. So every evening my mother would sit down with my sister and would teach us to read Spanish as she read the stories of the Old Testament. Raised in a family of five siblings my parents could not afford art lessons or supplies so I would draw on brown paper bags and would run around the house claiming every pencil and pen unattended..
But life goes on and unfortunately dreams are often left behind. In 1999 long after raising a family I decided to go back to college and take an art class my interest in the arts revived and I began to take a series of art workshops and classes. I put together a large library of art books and videos to study techniques and applications. Today when I pick up my brush the strokes flow with very little effort at times. My art has been described as Stylistic and recognizable by the use of vibrant colors, imaginable themes, classicism, surrealism, visions and storytelling.
When I paint a vision, an emotion or a mood I begin with a rough sketch on the canvas, but by the end of the painting it has taken a different approach from its initial sketch. Sometimes I feel I am not the one guiding my hand, but a divine intervention is the the force behind my work. My goal one day, is to go back to where it all started "The Metropolitan Museum of Art" and this time I can stand in front of a painting for as long as I want.
